The Economic Development Committee of Grand Bahama Alumnae Chapter (GBAC) aims to increase financial literacy and economic empowerment within the community. Through workshops, seminars, and mentoring, we provide the tools necessary for financial independence and entrepreneurship. We also support charitable programs that uplift families here in Grand Bahama.
The Educational Development Committee was established to implement public service initiatives that affect the lives of young individuals in our community. Our mission is to assist students living in the regions of Grand Bahama, Bimini, and Abaco by providing mentorship, cultivating positive relationships, and enhancing their educational experiences. The aim of Educational Development is to prioritize scholastic achievement and advanced academic development, promote service learning, facilitate college preparation and planning, and sustain educational initiatives within our service area

Delta Sigma Theta has three national youth enrichment programs designed to promote the development of young girls and boys. These include, but are not limited to, Delta GEMS, Delta Academy and EMBODI (collectively “youth initiatives”). Currently, The Grand Bahama Alumnae Chapter works with girls in middle and high school through Delta Gems.

Delta GEMS Program Overview
The Delta GEMS program was created by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to catch the dreams of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the framework to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a “can do” attitude. GBAC has adopted the concept and launched the program on Grand Bahama to prepare our teenage girls for success.
The goals for Delta GEMS are:
– To instill the need to excel academically.
– To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success.
– To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures in high school and beyond; and
– To create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

These benefits will assist them in impacting their communities, island and/or nation and overcome the challenges of the w
The Grand Bahama Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly continues its commitment to uplifting and empowering communities through impactful programming aligned with the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. In particular, our focus on Physical and Mental Health is demonstrated through a series of dynamic annual events that educate, engage, and inspire.
Signature events include our Teen Summit, hosted in conjunction with Lifewise, and our Mental Health Forum, which equips young people with tools for resilience and informed decision-making. We also host DeltaCare Activities, which promote wellness and self-care within our chapter. Each November, we observe Diabetes Awareness Month with initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles, while Breast Cancer Awareness activities in October feature informative sessions and community outreach.
Our efforts are guided by the national initiative, Healthy Lifestyle: Total Woman: Mind, Body, and Spirit, which acknowledges the unique role Delta women play in shaping the wellness of families and communities. Through DeltaCare, we emphasize holistic self-care—incorporating emotional and physical wellness alongside advocacy. The Red S.H.O.E. Challenge—standing for Self-care, Healthy Options, and Exercise—encourages members to embrace and promote healthy behaviors in everyday life.
Together, we strive to make wellness a priority—within our sisterhood and throughout Grand Bahama.

International Awareness & Involvement is centered on expanding individuals’ understanding of the world beyond their immediate surroundings. This initiative encourages learning about global issues, diverse cultures, and the challenges faced by different nations. By fostering curiosity and respect for international perspectives, it helps individuals become more informed and compassionate global citizens.
Through service projects, such as international outreach, educational campaigns, and cultural exchange programs, and through partnerships with global or culturally focused organizations, participants actively engage in meaningful work that bridges cultural gaps and supports global communities. The goal is to build a sense of unity, promote peace, and inspire action that contributes to the well-being and progress of people worldwide.
